A delicious twist on the classic cottage pie, this Chicken Curry Cottage Pie combines the comforting flavors of a creamy mashed potato topping with a rich and flavorful spiced chicken curry filling. Perfect for a cozy meal!
Ingredients
For the Chicken Curry Filling:

500g boneless chicken (diced)
-
1 onion (finely chopped)
-
2 cloves garlic (minced)
-
1-inch ginger (grated)
-
2 tomatoes (chopped)
-
1 cup chicken broth
-
2 tbsp oil
-
2 tsp curry powder
-
1 tsp garam masala
-
1 tsp turmeric
-
1 tsp cumin
-
½ tsp chili powder (adjust to taste)

Salt & pepper (to taste)
-
½ cup frozen peas
-
½ cup carrots (chopped)
-
½ cup bell pepper (optional)
-
2 tbsp fresh coriander (chopped)
For the Mashed Potato Topping:
-
4 large potatoes (peeled and boiled)
-
½ cup milk
-
2 tbsp butter
-
Salt & pepper (to taste)
-
½ cup grated cheese (optional)
Instructions
1. Prepare the Chicken Curry Filling:
-
Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.

Add garlic and ginger, stirring for a minute until fragrant.

Stir in the chopped tomatoes and cook until soft.

Add curry powder, garam masala, turmeric, cumin, chili powder, salt, and pepper. Cook for 1-2 minutes.

Add the diced chicken and cook until it turns white.

Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the chicken is tender.

Stir in peas, carrots, and bell peppers. Simmer for another 5 minutes.

Add chopped coriander and set the curry aside.
2. Prepare the Mashed Potato Topping:

Mash the boiled potatoes until smooth.

Add butter, milk, salt, and pepper, and mix until creamy.

Stir in grated cheese for extra flavor (optional).
3. Assemble & Bake:

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
-
Pour the chicken curry into a greased baking dish.
-
Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the top.
-
Use a fork to create a rough texture on the surface.
-
Bake for 20-25 minutes or until the top is slightly golden.
-
Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Serving Suggestions:
